And the Winner is....

The CITs!!!!! Here are the pictures from their performance.

The Rock Fight

One of our favorite all camp activities each year is our annual rock fight. This activity is a competition between units where councilors perform a song for the camp. The catch is that the campers make all of the decisions. They choose the song, the clothing, even the make-up if they would like; and while their councilors are performing they become their official fan club. Everyone in camp seems to have such a fun time with this even.

We Love Our CITs

We've had the pleasure this summer to have a few groups of councilors in training to spend time with us here at camp. We love having them here and we are so inspired by how much they pay attention to tasks and want to keep learning more about our roles at camp. Many of our staff have gone through the same program and they know how valuable that training is to them now that they are councilors.
Our current group of CITs actually spent about half of their time with us going through the Oxford Leadership Program at Willow Springs and a couple of hours learning about how one of our neighboring camps functions as well.
To the parents of our CITs we at Maripai would like to let you know how much we appreciate your daughters for all of their hard work this summer and we thank you for sending them here to help them advance in their leadership skills. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to assist you daughters in becoming the leaders they were meant to be!

Westerns get all of the fun costumes

Here at camp we love to really get into our themes and have fun with it. On any given day you'll see someone getting into a character for our themes. This week is especially fun for our staff! Due to the fact that we are a horse camp it goes hand in hand with western wear. Even some of the girls found costumes to become more involved in the theme.

A Showdown at the O.K. Corral

As part of our western theme this week our archery instructor, Nala, decided to pose a shootout challenge to 3 girls from one of the units. Whoever beat her with the most points scored in archery would have the honor of pieing her in the face after our banquet. Well one girl came out victorious and as promised she was able to pie Nala in the face. A few of our staff decided to join in the fun as well!

Our 2011 Summer Staff

We have a great group of women on our staff this year. They have a heart for making a difference in our campers lives and they have a fun time doing. Our administrative team is so thankful for every one of our staff members and the work that they do. We wouldn't be the camp we are without them.

Smooth as Butter

Today our Pioneers learned how to make butter the old fashioned way. each girl was given some heavy cream and a small amount of seasoning. They were then told to shake their containers until the liquid turned solid. Well they shook, and shook, and shook until finally they had made butter. A few of the girls felt they needed a break after that workout. They are currently using that butter on some toast at their unit cookout!
